The block, the code and the date that has already passed
The Oregon Foot & Ankle Conference runs October 22 to 24, 2026 in Oregon Ballroom 203-204 at the Oregon Convention Center, 777 NE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Portland.
OPMA holds a room block at the Hyatt Regency Portland, 375 NE Holladay Street, Portland, OR 97232, at $139 per night plus tax. Reserve on 971-222-1234 with group code G-OPMA, or through the group booking page linked from the association's hotel page. The association prints a cut-off of September 30, 2026 and does not state what happens to a booking made after it.
That is the first question for the phone call. Ask whether G-OPMA inventory remains, and ask it before comparing anything.
Three nights, not two
The block page names October 22 to 24, and the program decides how many nights that is. Thursday, October 22 starts at 7:00 a.m. and runs to 6:00 p.m. Friday, October 23 runs 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, October 24 runs 7:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.
A 7:00 a.m. Thursday start means being in Portland on Wednesday night. A reader who books a Thursday arrival is checking in after the first session has begun. The nights that cover the program are Wednesday, October 21, Thursday, October 22 and Friday, October 23, with a Saturday, October 24 checkout.
Three nights at $139 is $417 before tax. Two nights is $278, and it buys a program the reader cannot attend from the first minute. Saturday's 1:45 p.m. finish releases the Saturday night, so the checkout is Saturday.
How to test the block against the public rate
The association publishes no public rate, so the comparison has to be run rather than read. Three questions in one call to 971-222-1234:
What is the G-OPMA nightly rate for Wednesday, October 21, Thursday, October 22 and Friday, October 23, all-in with tax? What is the property's own flexible rate for the same three nights? What is the cancellation deadline on each?
Compare all-in figures. The block is quoted as $139 plus tax and the page states no tax rate, so the two numbers become comparable only when the property puts both on the same basis. Ask for the all-in nightly rate in writing.
Confirm the room type in the same reply. The block page names no room category.
When booking outside the block wins
Four situations favour a public rate.
The first is a night the block does not cover. If G-OPMA inventory opens on October 22 and the reader needs October 21, part of the stay sits outside the block, and splitting the stay may beat moving rooms on Thursday morning.
The second is a cancellation deadline that arrives too early. A cheaper rate the reader cannot cancel costs more than a flexible one when the registration itself is refundable only under the association's published policy.
The third is a flexible rate at or under $139 plus tax. The property competes with its own block.
The fourth is a party of 10 or more rooms. At that size a fresh request returns competing offers from 50+ hotels, and each property prices against the others.
Thursday is the contested night
The convention center calendar stacks three shows onto October 22. The F27 North America Sales Meeting runs October 19 to 22 in Portland Ballroom 252-253-254-255. The WaterSmart Innovations conference runs October 20 to 22 in Halls A-A1. OPMA opens the same morning in Oregon Ballroom 203-204.
Wednesday, October 21 is the night before a three-show day, and a Thursday start forces it. Book it first. The Functional Fabric Fair follows on October 27 and 28, so the surrounding week does not release inventory early.
What the block does not include
The Oregon Convention Center publishes its own garage terms. The underground garage holds 800 spaces and opens around 6:00 a.m. Entry is off NE Lloyd Blvd on P1 or NE First Avenue on P2, with 7-foot clearance on P1 and 9-foot on P2.
Up to 18 hours costs $15 with no in-and-out privileges. A dynamic rate of $15 to $25 applies at entry during events. Overnight parking is prohibited, availability is first come, and the drive-through booths take cards only. There are 566 metered spaces within three blocks, and the center sits eight miles from Portland International Airport.
The Hyatt Regency sits about 240 metres from the convention center on a straight line, across NE Holladay Street. A reader arriving by air can skip the garage entirely, and the overnight prohibition stops mattering.
Saturday, and where the bag goes
Saturday's 1:45 p.m. finish usually falls before a checkout deadline, and a reader who checks out Saturday morning is holding a bag through the closing session. The convention center rents lockers through LocketGo at the MLK Lobby, the Holladay Lobby and the Ginkoberry Concourse, reservable on a phone with a credit card.
The building is cashless. A cash-only guest can exchange notes for a Visa card at a Reverse ATM in the MLK Lobby at no fee. Complimentary Wi-Fi covers the lobbies and meeting rooms, and the welcome concierge answers on 503-731-7800.
Registration is a separate decision
The room rate is not the conference cost. OPMA members register free through August 1 and pay $49 after it. APMA members pay $499 before August 1 and $549 after. Non-APMA members pay $1,199 and then $1,249. Allied health professionals pay $499 and then $549. Residents and students register free.
Run the room arithmetic against the registration tier before choosing a night count. The gap between a member and a non-member registration is larger than the third night.
