Portland Book Festival runs November 2 to 8, 2026, with the main day on Saturday, November 7. Literary Arts lists three hotel partners for the week and publishes no rate for any of them. The three partner booking links arrive pre-filled for a six-night stay.
The pass costs $20 in advance and $27 at the box office. The room is the larger line, and each partner link opens on the longest version of the trip.
What the $20 pass covers
A General Admission Festival Pass buys a wristband for all Saturday events, a $5 book fair voucher and admission to the Portland Art Museum. Youth 17 and under enter free. An Arts for All pass costs $5 with an Oregon Trail or SNAP card, and veterans and active military enter free with ID. The free and discounted passes carry no book voucher.
Every attendee exchanges a pass for a wristband before entering a venue, including youth and discounted admissions. Entry is first come, first served. Rooms are cleared between sessions. The Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall and Newmark events need separate add-on tickets. The $195 Umbrella All-Access pass is sold out for 2026.
The main day, by the clock
Saturday's published grid opens with a 10:00 a.m. session and daytime events close at 6:00 p.m. The programme runs more than 100 authors, moderators and contributors across 10 stages in southwest Portland.
The stages sit in the South Park Blocks and in neighbouring buildings: the Portland Art Museum, which hosts pop-up events in the main galleries and the book and exhibitor fair in the Mark Building; the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall and the theatres inside Hatfield Hall; the Judy Kafoury Center; the First Congregational United Church of Christ; The Old Church; and Shemanski Park.
Friday is the quiet lever
Readers Night runs Friday, November 6, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. as a separately ticketed preview of the exhibitor fair. The advance box office at Literary Arts, 716 SE Grand Avenue, is open Wednesday the 4th through Friday the 6th, 12:00 to 5:30 p.m. A wristband collected there skips the Saturday queue at the Shemanski Park tent.
The three partners and the rate they will not print
Hotel Lucia at 400 SW Broadway, the Sentinel at 614 SW 11th Avenue and the Heathman at 1001 SW Broadway, all in the 97205 ZIP. The organiser's line is "Guests who book through our hotel partners will receive a preferred booking rate." No figure follows it. No cancellation window is published either.
The two organiser pages do not list the same set. The dedicated hotel-partners page carries the Lucia and the Sentinel. The plan-your-visit page carries all three.
The booking links default to six nights
Each Book Now button opens a SynXis group page set to arrive November 2 and depart November 8. That is six nights, the full festival week, and the dates sit in the link before the reader chooses. The group codes are 2154135 for the Lucia, 1421751 for the Sentinel and 26042026PB for the Heathman. Reset the dates before paying.
Two nights is the festival, six is the week
The main day alone needs two nights. Friday the 6th covers Readers Night and a 10:00 a.m. Saturday start, and Saturday the 7th keeps the room through the evening close. A Friday-only booking ends with a Saturday morning checkout, which puts the reader's bag in the middle of the busiest day.
The six-night window covers the Cover to Cover programme, which runs November 2 to 8 across the city. Those partner events do not require a festival pass. Many are free, and a venue prices the rest itself. A reader who wants the Saturday pays for four nights the trip does not use unless the dates are reset.
The measured walk from each partner
The South Park Blocks stages sit around the Portland Art Museum at 1219 SW Park Avenue. On the OpenStreetMap foot routing graph, read on 20 October 2026, the Heathman is 0.32 km from the museum, four minutes walking. The Sentinel is 0.53 km, seven minutes. The Lucia is 0.85 km, eleven minutes. The Lucia's partner blurb states that guests are "within easy walking distance of Portland Book Festival events in the South Park Blocks." The measurement holds.
No festival lot, and what that leaves
The organiser states that the museum and festival have no dedicated parking lot, and that garages and street parking are available throughout downtown. It encourages attendees to walk, bike or take TriMet, and it plans supplemental bike racks. The walk is the only published difference among the three partners.
Lodging tax on a November stay
Portland charges 6 percent city transient lodgings tax and 5.5 percent county tax on a room, which comes to 11.5 percent. A 3 percent Portland Tourism Improvement District fee applies when the bill itemizes it separately as a "3% Portland Tourism Assessment." That puts the guest's tax line at 14.5 percent. No partner publishes a room rate, so the tax has no nightly base here. Ask the property to quote the rate with tax, and to state any amenity fee as its own line.
The order to book in
Buy the pass first, at $20 rather than $27, and note that the voucher and museum admission come only with a full-price pass. Book the room second, and reset the dates on the partner link to the nights you want. Collect the wristband at 716 SE Grand Avenue between Wednesday and Friday. Add the separately ticketed Schnitzer and Newmark events last, once the room is held.
