One Friday, two nights

The 56th Annual Estate Planning Seminar runs Friday 29 January 2027 in Portland Ballroom 253-254-255 at the Oregon Convention Center, 777 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd. The room sits on Level 2. Registration opens at 7:30 AM with a continental breakfast. Opening remarks start at 8 AM, the first speaker at 8:15 AM and sessions close at 5 PM. A reception follows to 6 PM.

The organiser names The Heathman Hotel, 1001 SW Broadway, as the official hotel and puts it at approximately 1.5 miles from the convention center. The seminar rate is unpublished. The FAQ tells attendees to book directly and promises the rate and the link.

A 7:30 AM registration in the Lloyd District makes Thursday 28 January the night that puts a guest in the room before the desk opens. Friday 29 January is the night that keeps the reception. That is two nights, with a Saturday 30 January checkout.

The rate that is not on the page

The registration form carries a Hotel Accommodations block reading "Book your lodging at our Seminar hotel (details coming soon)". It links to the Heathman booking engine with property 17278 and group code 6149575. The link carries a 30 January 2025 check-in. Opened against January 2027 dates it returns "Group is not available", and the engine page title reads "Details - ZZTO BE DELETED - Heathman Hotel".

The published link cannot book the block. The property answers at (503) 241-4100. Three questions belong on that call: the 2027 seminar rate, whether the block covers Thursday 28 January as well as Friday, and the date the block releases.

What the published rate has to cover

The Heathman publishes its own fee stack. Valet parking is $58 a night and the garage takes no oversized vehicles. A $30 daily guest amenity fee applies plus tax. A mandatory 3 percent credit card recovery fee applies to every card charge, cancellation fees and no-shows included. Check-in is 4 PM and checkout is noon. The card hold covers room, tax and $100 per day of anticipated incidentals.

Cancellation carries a one-night penalty. Cancel before 3 PM local time and at least 24 hours before arrival and the penalty is waived. Pre-paid non-refundable rates keep the full charge.

The garage ladder

The convention center garage holds 800 cars, entered from NE Lloyd Blvd at P1 or NE First Avenue at P2. The standard entry rate is $15 for up to 18 hours with no in and out privileges. Larger event days carry a dynamic rate of $15 to $25 charged at entry. The garage opens at 6 AM and prohibits overnight parking.

Friday 29 January 2027 is a larger event day. FAN EXPO Portland runs 29 to 31 January across Halls A-A1-B-C, the Showstopper Dance Competition takes Hall E for the same days and the seminar holds the Portland Ballroom. Price the car at the event rate.

Park once, at the hotel

The OCC garage closes to overnight parking, so the car cannot sit there across two nights. The Heathman valet at $58 a night covers both. Two nights read $116 before the 3 percent card fee and the $30 daily amenity.

A guest who leaves the car at the hotel rides MAX on Friday. The Convention Center station sits at NE Holladay and Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, opposite the entrance. The adult fare is $2.80 for 2 1/2 hours, and TriMet charges nothing more after $5.60 in a day. The round trip is capped at $5.60 against a $15 to $25 garage entry.

The walk from The Heathman to Pioneer Courthouse Square is short. The organiser describes three blocks. The hotel FAQ describes two blocks and a four-minute walk. The Red and Blue lines connect through that square.

The tuition and the room run on different clocks

Early bird tuition closes 8 January 2027 at $325 for members and $425 for non-members. It rises to $375 and $475 after. An email before 5 PM Pacific on Friday 8 January returns the tuition minus a $50 processing fee. No refund follows that hour. Transfers to another attendee cost nothing.

The tuition hardens on 8 January. The room does not. The Heathman 24-hour cancellation window runs later. Hold Thursday and Friday on a cancellable rate and release inside 24 hours of arrival, weeks after the tuition decision closes.

The clock that sets the second night

Sessions close at 5 PM and the reception runs to 6 PM. A Friday checkout at the noon deadline ends the room seven hours before the day ends. Late checkout runs case by case. Book the Friday night, or ask the desk for a late checkout in writing the evening before.

Registration closes later than the tuition does. The organiser takes registrations to the day of the event. A registration filed after 12 PM on Wednesday 27 January waits at the badge desk while the badge prints.

The order of commitments

Call the property first, because the online link cannot book the block. Get the rate, both nights and the release date in writing. Register before 8 January if the tuition will be spent anyway, and order the binder in that window. Hold Thursday and Friday on a cancellable rate. Park once, at the hotel, and let MAX cover Friday.
