Two show days, seven hours each
The Oddities & Curiosities Expo runs at the Oregon Convention Center on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November. Halls C, D and E hold the floor at 777 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Portland.
The organiser's FAQ prints the hours: Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Book the Friday night
A Friday 6 November check-in and a Sunday 8 November checkout book two nights. The guest stands in the hall at the 10 a.m. Saturday open, and Sunday stays whole.
A Saturday-only booking puts a checkout on Sunday morning against the 10 a.m. open. Ask the property for its checkout time and for a late checkout before booking. The answer decides the second day.
Three nights, Friday 6 November to Monday 9 November, move the checkout to Monday morning and add a night's rate.
The bag has a venue answer
Sunday checkout lands mid-morning while the floor runs to 5 p.m. The convention center rents lockers through LocketGo at the MLK Lobby, the Holladay Lobby and the Ginkoberry Concourse.
A locker at the MLK Lobby costs $12 a day, tax included, in medium, large and XL sizes. Guests reserve on a phone and pay by card.
That $12 keeps the booking at two nights.
Which rate plan wins two days and one checkout
The organiser publishes no nightly rate for this show. The venue publishes none. The figure comes from the property, and three questions settle it.
Ask for the nightly difference between the flexible rate and the non-refundable advance rate. Ask for the cancellation deadline in writing. Ask whether a Friday arrival prices the two nights differently from a Saturday arrival.
Then compare two bookings. Two nights from Friday carry one checkout on Sunday morning. Three nights from Friday add a night's rate and move the checkout to Monday. Price that third night against the $12 locker.
The building takes cards
The Oregon Convention Center runs cashless. Its counters accept credit and debit cards and touchless payment. The garage drive-through booths take cards and touchless payment only.
Cash works after one stop. A reverse ATM sits down the short hallway to the left of the welcome desk in the MLK Lobby. It loads a Visa card once from a cash deposit at no fee. The card works in the cafes, at the parking garage and anywhere Visa is accepted.
Five ATMs sit in the building: the Pre-Function A, B, C and E lobbies and the South Ginkoberry Concourse. Load the reverse-ATM card before joining the door line.
Tickets, scans and re-entry
Day-of tickets sell at every show for $20, and the organisers accept cash and credit at the door. Children 12 and under enter free and need no ticket. A ticket stays valid until the first scan, so it works for either day. No refunds. Re-entry takes a hand stamp, and staff search bags at each entry.
Classes set the morning
A class price includes expo admission for that day. The USA and Canada class clock runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the Opossum and Raccoon Taxidermy class. Sunset Moth Entomology and Octopus & Tentacle Globe run 10 a.m. to noon. Scorpion Habitat and Ratalope Coffin run 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Students arrive 15 minutes before the start. A 10 a.m. Saturday class rules out a Saturday-morning arrival, and the Friday night covers it.
Arriving without the car
TriMet's MAX light rail stops 300 times a day near the convention center front door. The Portland Streetcar A Loop and TriMet Bus Line 6 serve the building.
The garage holds 800 spaces at $15 for up to 18 hours, with a dynamic $15 to $25 charge at entry on event days. It opens at 6 a.m. Five hundred sixty-six metered spaces sit within three blocks. Portland International Airport is eight miles away.
Book the room this week
Two nights, Friday 6 and Saturday 7 November, cover both show days and one checkout. Ask for the checkout time and a late checkout at booking. Price the third night against the $12 locker.
Buy the ticket at the door or in advance, and keep the Sunday floor for the vendors.
