Spotlight Dance Cup brings its Portland regional to the Oregon Convention Center for the weekend of February 4 to 7, 2027. The organiser's Portland page lists Thursday as an added day. Two dates decide what the weekend costs a studio: standard-rate registration closes January 4, and the Hyatt Regency Portland group block closes January 15. Eleven days separate them.
The entry date comes first
Payment made by December 28 applies the discount. January 4 is the closing date, described on the page as the last day to register at the standard rate. A payment postmarked after that date incurs the regular rate, per the organiser's FAQ.
Payment is due at the point of registration. The FAQ narrows the accepted methods as the date approaches. Before the closing date, an e-check, credit or debit card, studio check, cashier's check, money order or gift certificate all work. Between 31 and 21 days before the event, personal and studio checks drop out. At 20 days or less, credit card is the only method. A returned check carries a $50 fee and forfeits the rebate.
Entry is studio-only. The FAQ states that Spotlight no longer accepts independent entries, and that an independent dancer still registers under a studio account. The room count therefore follows the studio roster, and the roster settles at the January 4 closing date.
The room date is eleven days later
The Portland page names one hotel. Hyatt Regency Portland at the Oregon Convention Center sits at 375 NE Holladay Street, Portland, OR 97232, one block from the venue at 777 NE Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard. The SDC group rate reads $149 nightly, and the cutoff date reads January 15. The reserve button opens Hyatt's group booking page under the code G-MZR0.
The organiser publishes the group rate and the cutoff. It publishes no per-room cancellation term, no attrition figure and no release date. Ask the hotel for the release date in writing before the block is booked, because that date decides how late a studio can shrink its count.
What the nights cost
Portland's lodging tax reads 14.25 percent from January 1, 2027, and a separate 3 percent Tourism Improvement District fee applies to overnight stays. On $149 a night, the lodging tax comes to $21.23 and the district fee to $4.47, for $174.70 a night.
A Thursday February 4 arrival and a Sunday February 7 departure runs three nights at $524.10. A Wednesday February 3 arrival and a Sunday February 7 departure runs four nights at $698.80. A Friday February 5 arrival and a Sunday departure runs two nights at $349.40.
Which nights the schedule needs
The venue calendar lists Spotlight Dance Cup for February 5 to 7 in the Oregon Ballroom. The organiser's page lists the weekend as February 4 to 7 with Thursday added, and the 2027 tour page repeats the Thursday line for Portland. The tour page also states that Spotlight reserves the right to add or drop days, including Thursdays, when registration warrants. The full schedule arrives about two weeks before the competition, inside the teacher packet on the studio account.
The building fills behind the competition. Oregon DECA 2027 runs February 6 to 9 in Hall B, per the venue calendar. Sunday morning checkout on February 7 lands inside DECA's run, and a Sunday night room carries DECA demand. A studio that needs the Sunday night books it with the rest of the block and asks the hotel for the release date that covers it.
Why the room count settles after January 4
Entries close January 4. Rooms close January 15. A studio that books before the entry deadline carries rooms against a routine count that the routine list can still change. A studio that books in the eleven days after the entry deadline carries rooms against a settled roster.
A studio that misses January 4 pays the regular entry rate on the same routines. That studio still needs the rooms. The block cutoff of January 15 does not move with it, so the two dates have to be worked in order.
Unused rooms come out before January 15. The organiser publishes no cancellation ladder for rooms, so the release terms have to come from the hotel, and they belong in writing at the point of booking.
Getting to the venue without a car
TriMet MAX light rail stops 300 times a day near the convention center's front door. The Portland Streetcar A Loop arrives every 15 minutes at NE MLK and Hoyt, outside the main entrances, and TriMet bus line 6 stops at NE MLK and Holladay. The venue garage holds 800 spaces, charges $15 for up to 18 hours with no in-and-out privileges, applies a dynamic entry rate of $15 to $25 during larger events, opens at 6:00 a.m., prohibits overnight parking and accepts card payment only.
The sequence
Pay by December 28 for the discount. Close the studio entry by January 4 at the standard rate. Book the Hyatt block at $149 by January 15 against the settled roster, and release the rooms that the roster does not use.
A request for proposal through hotelhuddle goes to 50+ hotels in the destination at no cost to submit and with no markup on the rate, and returns responses in 24 to 72 hours. Most hotels quote group rates from 10 rooms a night, and some quote from 5.
January 4 sets the entry. January 15 sets the room. Work them in that order and the weekend holds $149 a night.
