Houston hotel rates average $136 a night, per Engine's read of 7 million public rate observations from May 2024 to April 2026. Engine calls these par rates: the cheapest publicly available price at a search. Houston ranks 30th of 50 major markets, 8 percent below the $148 median.
Texas Hotel Search calls Houston the state's largest hotel market by every measure. It reads state occupancy tax filings and reports $1.8 billion in trailing twelve-month room receipts across 742 filing hotels and 68,260 registry rooms, down 4.5 percent.
The decline reads off a storm year. 2024 receipts reached $1.94 billion, up 12 percent, and the May 2024 derecho and Hurricane Beryl housed displaced households and repair crews for weeks. Measured against 2025's storm months the market reads down 8 percent. Measured against 2023 it is up 3 percent.
The rate curve moves 34 percent, and March is the peak
Monthly averages run $114 in December to $174 in March. December sits 16 percent under the city average. March sits 28 percent over it, a peak Engine ties to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
First-quarter 2026 receipts were $550.6 million, up 11.8 percent year over year. March 2026 at $237.3 million was the largest single month in the nine-plus years of filings, 19 percent above the previous record.
NRG Stadium hosts seven FIFA World Cup matches in June 2026, with about half a million visitors projected. The market page labels that projection a promoters' number.
How this list is ordered
Ten properties inside the downtown and Galleria clusters, ranked by the room revenue each reported to the Texas Comptroller through May 2026. Every one of them carries a mandatory fee on ResortFeeChecker's Houston page, last updated September 2026.
That page lists 24 Houston hotels with a resort, destination or service fee. Six higher-revenue properties do not appear on it: the Marriott Marquis Houston ($67.7 million), The Post Oak ($46.6 million), the Four Seasons Hotel Houston ($37.0 million), the Hyatt Regency Houston ($33.8 million), the Houston Airport Marriott at George Bush Intercontinental ($31.6 million) and the Houstonian ($22.5 million).
Room counts and revenue come from the filings, which are self-reported, unaudited and restated when operators amend. Fees, addresses and parking charges come from ResortFeeChecker's per-property pages. That site's own caveat applies: other hotels may charge fees it has not recorded, so confirm every charge with the property.
1. Hilton Americas-Houston — 1600 Lamar Street, 77010. 1,200 rooms, $68.9 million, down 2.5 percent. Destination fee $2 a night. Parking adds $42 self or $65 valet.
2. JW Marriott Houston by the Galleria — 5150 Westheimer Road, 77056. 482 rooms, $25.2 million, down 3.6 percent. Destination fee $29.25 a night plus a 0.82 percent service fee. Parking adds $37 self or $69 valet.
3. The Westin Galleria Houston — 5060 West Alabama Street, 77056. 487 rooms, $24.2 million, down 1.4 percent. Destination fee $29.25 a night plus a 0.61 percent service fee. Parking adds $58 valet.
4. JW Marriott Houston Downtown — 806 Main Street, 77002. 328 rooms, $23.4 million, down 15.3 percent. Destination fee $7.01 per stay. Parking adds $56 valet.
5. The Westin Oaks Houston at the Galleria — 5011 Westheimer Road, 77056. 406 rooms, $20.6 million, up 1.6 percent. Destination fee $29.25 a night plus a 0.61 percent service fee. Parking adds $58 valet.
6. Hotel Zaza Houston Museum District — 5701 Main Street, 77005. 315 rooms, $20.0 million, up 1.2 percent. Resort fee $35.89 a night. Parking adds $60 valet.
7. Magnolia Hotel Houston, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel — 1100 Texas Street, 77002. 314 rooms, $15.7 million, up 7.4 percent. Destination fee $1.10 a night plus a $2 service fee. Parking adds $54 valet.
8. The Laura Hotel, Houston Downtown, Autograph Collection — 1070 Dallas Street, 77002. 223 rooms, $14.6 million, up 4.2 percent. Destination fee $29.25 a night. Parking adds $73 valet, the highest of the ten.
9. Thompson Houston, by Hyatt — 1717 Allen Parkway, 77019. 172 rooms, $14.2 million, up 15.7 percent. Destination fee $40.95 a night. Parking adds $60 valet.
10. The Sam Houston Hotel, Tapestry Collection by Hilton — 1117 Prairie Street, 77002. 100 rooms, $4.7 million, up 29.5 percent. Destination fee $2 a night. Parking adds $45 valet, the lowest of the ten.
What the fee and the garage add to a night
The Galleria cluster runs on one fee. The JW Marriott Houston by the Galleria, The Westin Galleria Houston and The Westin Oaks Houston at the Galleria each charge $29.25 a night plus a service fee near 0.7 percent. Valet there runs $58 to $69, and a $200 room inside a group block lands near $288 once the fee and the garage are added.
Downtown fees run smaller. The Hilton Americas-Houston and The Sam Houston Hotel charge $2 a night, so the garage carries most of the add-on. Valet spans $45 at The Sam Houston Hotel to $73 at The Laura Hotel, a $28 spread between two downtown addresses.
The tax stack is the same at every property here
The Texas Comptroller states the Houston stack as 6 percent state, 7 percent Houston, 2 percent Harris County and 2 percent Harris County-Houston Sports Authority. The FAQ lists the four components and no combined rate, and they add to 17 percent. Local hotel taxes fall only on rooms ordinarily used for sleeping.
What a booking platform keeps on the same night
The Lobby's 2026 platform table puts Booking.com commission at 15 to 18 percent of a booking and Expedia or Hotels.com at 15 to 25 percent. Booking.com's Genius programme asks hotels for member discounts of 10 to 15 percent, which the same table puts at an effective 25 to 28 percent on a Genius booking.

Hotels reply with rates, terms and perks side by side within 24 to 72 hours. Hotels pay a separate commission on accepted bookings, and the platform adds no commission to your rate. Clause 2.2 of the terms reads: “The Platform is free to use. RFP submissions are free — there are no subscription plans, per-request fees, or hidden charges.”
