The fixed anchor is the first Sunday

The Castro Street Fair falls on the first Sunday in October, which is the organiser's own rule on its FAQ page. That rule lets a reader plan the date a year out. The 52nd annual Fair runs Sunday, Oct. 4, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the intersection of Castro and Market Streets and the surrounding area.

Harvey Milk founded the Fair in 1974, which makes this the 52nd edition. Since 1998 the Fair has distributed more than $1.6 million to local nonprofit beneficiaries. This year's theme is “Where We Belong.”

Seven hours, one night

The gates open at 11 a.m. and the Fair closes at 6 p.m. Seven hours fit inside a single night: the night of Sunday, Oct. 4, with a Monday checkout.

The official after party follows at the Castro Theatre. Polyglamorous presents it, with Octo Octa, BEYA and Mark O’Brien. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., the show starts at 6 p.m., it is all ages, and tickets run $35.25 to $65.25 through Ticketmaster. The party attaches a second, ticketed event to the Sunday night.

The footprint is closed to traffic and smoke-free

Four street segments close for the Fair: Market Street from Noe to Castro, Castro Street from Market to 19th Street, 18th Street from Diamond to Noe, and 17th Street from Castro to Noe. The organisers publish the list as the general closure set. The General Info page states the Fair is a smoke-free event.

Entry runs on a suggested donation of $10 to $20 at the gates, and the organisers state that nobody is turned away for lack of funds. The gate money goes to the Fair's beneficiary partner organisations and helps cover the cost of producing the Fair.

Castro Station is the whole commute

The organiser recommends Muni Metro. The K Ingleside, L Taraval, M Ocean View and S Shuttle lines all stop at Castro Station, which the FAQ describes as located within the fairgrounds. The station sits inside the footprint, so the last leg of the trip is a walk between stages.

The bar partners are inside the footprint

Four Official Bar Partners sit inside the Fair footprint and the Castro Entertainment Zone: Beaux, Copper Kitchen & Microbrewery, Midnight Sun and QBar. A 2026 donation sticker takes $1 off drinks at all four throughout Fair day. The Castro is an official Entertainment Zone, so guests 21 and over can carry eligible to-go drinks from participating bar partners through the activated footprint, in no glass or metal container.

Five zones across the seven hours

The Castro Stage runs the San Francisco Black Pride showcase from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the SF Freedom Band with DJ Ka’lonji until 4 p.m., then DJ Stanley Frank Sensation to the close. The Collingwood Stage at 18th and Collingwood runs AHUFF from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the US/BEAUX showcase to 3 p.m., and Grace Towers Presents to 6 p.m. The Queer AF Stage opens with the Bay Area Rainbow Symphony, then E’lish, Jason Godfrey and RonKat Spearman. The Family Zone holds Drag Queen Story Time with Per Sia at noon. Sundance Saloon returns to the Castro Theatre parking lot with two-stepping, line dancing and novice lessons.

The organiser welcomes San Francisco Black Pride to the Castro Stage this year. The published lineup names Ms. Love O, The Junior and LBXX, and the organiser states the programming is still evolving and subject to change.

Rooms on the closed streets

Four properties in the hotelhuddle directory sit in or beside the neighbourhood. The Hotel Castro San Francisco publishes 4230 18th Street and four stars. Beck's Motor Lodge publishes 2222 Market Street and three stars. Twin Peaks Hotel publishes 2160 Market Street and two stars. Parker Guest House publishes 520 Church Street and four stars.

Beck's Motor Lodge and Twin Peaks Hotel both front Market Street, one of the four closure segments, so the Fair's footprint reaches their door. Addresses and star ratings above come from the hotelhuddle directory.

The booking order

Fix Sunday, Oct. 4 first, because the organiser's rule makes it predictable a year out. Decide whether one night covers it, given an 11 a.m. start, a 6 p.m. close and a ticketed after party attached. Then hold a room on a cancellable rate and put the nightly price, the minimum-stay rule and the cancellation deadline in writing.
