Three days in Golden Gate Park
Hardly Strictly Bluegrass runs Friday Oct. 2 through Sunday Oct. 4, 2026, at Hellman Hollow and the Lindley and Marx meadows. Admission is free and no ticket is required. Entrances open at 11 a.m. on Friday and at 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Performances end at 7 p.m. each day.
The organiser prints one housing route. It directs visitors to the San Francisco Convention & Visitors Bureau, to www.sfvisitor.org, and to the Visitor Information Center at 415-391-2000 or 888-782-9673 (STAY-N-SF). A room booked through that route carries the property's own rate and cancellation terms, so both figures belong in the request.
Two questions then decide the stay. Which nights, and which side of the park.
The gate times set the nights
Four entrances open the venue: JFK Drive at Transverse Drive, Fulton Street at 30th Avenue, JFK Drive at 36th Avenue, and the South Polo Field gate at Middle Drive and Metson Road.
A Friday arrival sits behind an 11 a.m. gate, so the first night is Thursday. Saturday's 9 a.m. gate puts the second night on Friday, and Sunday leaves Saturday as the last night. Three nights, Thursday through Saturday with a Sunday checkout, cover the run. A Friday and Saturday pair covers the two fullest days.
Transit splits the park
The organiser routes the crowd onto public transport and states that parking in the neighbourhoods around Golden Gate Park is extremely limited. The venue bars bicycles, scooters, skateboards, Segways and other motorised devices inside the gates, so a bike ride ends at the entrance.
Muni serves the north side of the park with the 5 Fulton, the 5R Fulton Rapid, the 31 Balboa, the 38 Geary and the 38R Geary Rapid buses. The south side runs on the N Judah train and the 7 Haight/Noriega bus. The 29 Sunset crosses the park on Crossover Drive. Extra service runs on all three days at regular fares, and the organiser points riders to Clipper Mobile and MuniMobile.
Paid parking returns on Saturday and Sunday at a few lots run by local PTAs, first come first served. Last year's lots were George Washington High School at 600 32nd Ave., Argonne at 680 18th Ave., Lawton Alternative School at 1570 31st Ave., Lafayette Elementary at 4545 Anza St. and the SFUSD Admin Campus at 750 25th Avenue. The organiser states it cannot guarantee access, because those lots are independently owned and operated.
North side: the 5 Fulton and the 38 Geary
Four properties in the hotelhuddle directory sit on the north side of the park. Geary Parkway Motel publishes 4750 Geary Boulevard and two stars. Seal Rock Inn publishes 545 Point Lobos Avenue. Inn at the Presidio publishes 42 Moraga Avenue. Lodge at the Presidio publishes 105 Montgomery Street.
Two of the four entrances sit on this side, at 30th and 36th Avenues on the Fulton and JFK edges. Each property sets its own nightly figure and cancellation window, so both belong in the request.
South side: the N Judah and the 7 Haight/Noriega
Three properties in the directory sit on the south side. Ocean Inn publishes 4211 Judah Street and two stars. Motel 6 publishes 1234 Great Highway and two stars. Stanyan Park Hotel publishes 750 Stanyan St. and three stars, at the park's eastern edge where the N Judah and the 7 Haight/Noriega both stop.
Addresses and star ratings above come from the hotelhuddle directory. Nightly rates, minimum-stay rules, resort or parking charges and cancellation windows are set by each property.
The constraints that remain
Camping is not allowed in Golden Gate Park. Waste management sweeps the park each evening, so gear cannot hold a spot overnight. Accessible parking sits along JFK west of Chain of Lakes, first come first served, and the organiser runs a shuttle between the cart stops and ADA placard parking.
Two smaller facts matter at the margin. The venue is cashless and carries no ATMs. The organiser asks visitors to dress comfortably and to be prepared for sun or fog.
The booking order
Fix the side first. Fix the nights against the gate times: Thursday to Sunday for the full run, or Friday and Saturday for the two big days. Hold the room on a rate that can be cancelled, and put the nightly price and the cancellation deadline in writing before the stay is firmed up.
