The dates, the venue and the block
MAPP’s Benchmarking and Best Practices Conference runs September 29 to October 1, 2026, with forecast attendance of 650. MAPP’s own conference page names the Indianapolis Downtown Marriott at 350 W Maryland Street and links a booking page for attendees. The convention centre’s event listing puts the same conference in Wabash Ballroom 1-3 at the Indiana Convention Center. Confirm the session venue with MAPP before you book a room.
That leaves an attendee one decision: a bed inside the block at the host hotel, or a bed nearby. Both work. They separate on price, on the walk, and on how the evening ends.
Inside the block at the host hotel
Visit Indy lists the Indianapolis Marriott with 650 sleeping rooms and 42,000 square feet of meeting space, among twelve downtown hotels joined to the convention centre by climate-controlled skywalk. A 650-attendee conference against a 650-room host property puts most of the room nights within reach of the block, so booking early inside it is the low-effort path.
The block keeps your bill on one folio, keeps every trip to the sessions indoors, and keeps the evening functions a short walk from your room. Ask MAPP for the nightly block rate in writing, together with the release date, before you decide.
What nearby costs and saves
Downtown Indianapolis holds 7,100-plus hotel rooms. The convention centre states that more than half sit within blocks of the hall and the stadium, and that 4,700 connect to the centre by skywalk. Visit Indy counts twelve connected properties. By published room count the near neighbours are the JW Marriott with 1,005 rooms, The Westin with 575, the Hyatt Regency with 499, Embassy Suites with 360, Crowne Plaza at Union Station with 273, the Conrad with 247 and Le Méridien with 100.
Those properties price against their own downtown demand. Ask each one for a rate and set it against the block quote. Three other bookings share the calendar: the Do it Best Corp. Fall Market at the same venue from 25 to 28 September, and two Association for Talent Development conferences on 29 September to 1 October, the same three days as MAPP.
The walk, and how the evening ends
The skywalk does the work here. The convention centre locks the skywalks at approximately 11:00 p.m. and reopens them at approximately 6:00 a.m., and it states that those hours are event-dependent. A skywalk-connected hotel costs no street crossings during the day and one outdoor walk if a function runs past the lock time. An off-campus hotel costs a street walk on every trip, in both directions.
Where MAPP stages the evening receptions decides how much that matters. Ask the association for the reception venue and its end time when you book the block.
The booking window that still gets the group rate
MAPP’s 2026 price list runs $1,038 per registration for members, $1,264 for non-members, $950 per registration for groups of four or more, and $76 for the Lunch and Learn add-on. Members paid $923 and groups of four or more $850 through 15 August 2026. The group rate applies at four registrations, so coordinate with colleagues before anyone registers alone.
MAPP does not publish a release date for unbooked block rooms. Ask the association in writing for the cutoff date and the nightly block rate, and hold a cancellable rate as your fallback while you wait.
What to put in the request
Parking: Denison Parking operates every Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium lot, downtown holds more than 70,000 spaces, and you can reserve and prepay online for either venue. Transit: IndyGo runs the city bus service, with a call centre at (317) 635-3344, and the convention centre names the Maryland Street canopy as the taxi pick-up point. From the airport, the Ground Transportation Center on the first floor of the Terminal Garage connects to bus service, car rental, taxi, Uber and Lyft, and hotel courtesy vehicles. Downtown sits 15 minutes from Indianapolis International Airport.
