Six days, no tip times yet
The 30th TIAA Big Ten Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament runs March 9–14, 2027 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The conference published those dates on September 16, 2026 inside its 2026-27 men’s basketball schedule release. Tipoff times and television designations will be announced at a later date.
The round structure decides which nights carry demand. Play opens Tuesday, March 9 with two games between the number 15–18 seeds. Wednesday’s four contests add Tuesday’s winners to seeds 9–14. Seeds 5–8 begin Thursday. The top four seeds open Friday in the quarterfinals. The semifinals run Saturday, and the champion is crowned after Sunday’s title game. CBS Sports broadcasts the semifinals and the championship game for the 30th consecutive year, and both stream on Paramount+.
Five nights or six
A Tuesday check-in and a Sunday checkout is five nights. A six-night stay adds one of two dates. Sunday, March 14 holds the room through the title game and the Monday drive home. Monday, March 8 puts you in Indianapolis before Tuesday’s opening session.
The choice follows what you are attending. A visitor who takes the Tuesday open and the Saturday semifinals buys five nights and leaves Sunday morning. A visitor who stays for the championship game buys the Sunday night.
Saturday is the night to hold
Six straight days inside one building peak on semifinal Saturday. Two semifinals draw the week’s largest single-day crowd. A single-night hold belongs on Saturday, March 13.
Friday’s quarterfinals carry the second-strongest case. The top four seeds open that day, so fan bases within driving distance of Indianapolis arrive late and leave Monday. The last two nights move first.
Two room locations
Visit Indy publishes the geography that frames the trade-off. Gainbridge Fieldhouse sits three blocks from the Indiana Convention Center. The Convention Center’s own pages state that more than half of downtown’s 7,100-plus hotel rooms lie within blocks of the Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium, and that 4,700 rooms connect by skywalk. Visit Indy counts 12 hotels and 5,200 rooms in the connected package.
A connected room turns the six days into a covered walk. The Convention Center publishes a skywalk lock-down at approximately 11:00 p.m. and a reopening at approximately 6:00 a.m., and states the window is event-dependent.
An edge-of-downtown room adds a drive into the daily plan. The Virginia Avenue Parking Garage sits on the northeast corner of Gainbridge Fieldhouse and connects to the building by a covered sky bridge on the third floor, with its entrance off Maryland Street. Visit Indy counts more than 42,000 parking spaces within a 10-minute walk of the building. Denison Parking manages downtown facilities and handles bus parking at (317) 916-1760.
The conference schedule release names no hotel, no room block and no reservation deadline for this tournament. Rates for either location come from the properties.
Book refundable, then decide
No cut-off date is published, so the workable sequence is a refundable reservation now and a decision later. Ask each property to state its cancellation deadline in writing. Ask for the nightly difference between its flexible rate and its non-refundable rate before you commit a non-refundable night.
Re-check the file when the bracket lands. Once the top four seeds are set and start Friday, the fan bases within driving distance move and the last two nights tighten.
hotelhuddle sends one free request to 50-plus hotels in the destination. Hotels reply with group rates, terms and perks within 24 to 72 hours, and you pay the hotel directly at its own rate with no markup. Most hotels offer group rates at 10 or more rooms per night, and some quote from five rooms depending on season and availability.
