Two nights, Friday to Sunday
The Checkered Flag Championship runs on Saturday, January 9, 2027 at the Indiana Convention Center, in Exhibit Hall A. Victory Athletics Spirit lists a forecast attendance of 450 on the venue's event page.
One competition day sets the whole hotel decision. A Friday, January 8 arrival and a Sunday, January 10 checkout put two nights on the bill, Friday and Saturday. A second event shares the building on January 9: the Whitetail Film Tour in Wabash Ballroom 1-2, also forecast at 300 people.
What the organiser has published so far
The organiser's page for the Checkered Flag Championship carries the date, a team registration link and a note that more information is coming soon. That page and the venue's event page publish no room block, nightly rate, property list or booking cut-off for this event.
Ask the organiser whether a block is held and on what date the hold is released. Treat the quote at the point of booking as the rate that counts.
Reserve refundable, then get the terms in writing
Three structures cover the rates a family will be offered: flexible, non-refundable, and a group block with an attrition clause. The flexible rate carries no penalty when an athlete's plans change. No cancellation window, fee or percentage is published for this event, so the terms have to come from the hotel.
Ask two questions before paying. What is the last date I can cancel without penalty, and what happens to the deposit after that date? If the hotel will not put the deadline in writing, take the flexible rate.
The two nights and the drive
Over two nights a lower nightly rate has to beat the parking charge and the drive on both days. Denison Parking operates all Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium lots and answers at (317) 916-1760. Downtown Indianapolis holds more than 70,000 parking spaces, and the venue recommends reserving and pre-paying online. Spaces for people with disabilities sit in the surrounding lots and garages on a first-come, first-served basis.
Engine measured the Indianapolis nightly average at $128 across 1.2 million public rate observations from May 2024 to April 2026. January averages $114, the lowest month in the table.

The Convention Center reports that more than half of downtown's 7,100-plus rooms sit within blocks of the building and Lucas Oil Stadium. A further 4,700 rooms connect to the Center by skywalk. The skywalks close on a rule of thumb of about 11:00 p.m. and reopen about 6:00 a.m., and the venue states the exact hours are event-dependent. Confirm each address, rate and cancellation term with the property.
The airport and the bus network
IndyGo runs the city bus network and its call centre answers at (317) 635-3344. The venue names the Maryland Street canopy as the recommended taxi pick-up and drop-off point, and notes that access can be restricted during certain events. Indianapolis International Airport's Ground Transportation Center sits on the first floor of the Terminal Garage, with connections to bus service, car rental, taxi, ride-hailing and hotel courtesy vehicles.
When a gym brings a block
Most hotels quote a group rate at 10 or more rooms per night, and some discount from as few as five rooms depending on season and availability. hotelhuddle.com sends one request to 50 or more hotels in a destination and shows the responses side by side. Submitting a request is free, hotels respond in 24 to 72 hours, and the rate carries no markup. A booking is not confirmed until the reservation is completed with the hotel, so the cancellation questions apply again at that point.
What to lock in and when
Book the Friday and Saturday nights refundable first, then hold them while the roster settles. Saturday is the tighter night, because the Whitetail Film Tour shares the building that day.
The Sunday checkout is the easy half. The next event on the Convention Center calendar after January 9 is the Youth Rally and Mass Service on January 20, so the January 10 departures meet no competing arrivals. The building fills again for the Central Zone Invitational on January 23 and 24, and for the Dot Foods national business meeting from January 27 to 29, which matters only if the trip extends.
